FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Cannot find the answer? Give us a call, we will be glad to help.

How much do hearing aids cost?

The model is chosen according to your test results: the degree of hearing loss, speech understanding and your needs. The price depends on the power and technology level of the device and ranges from roughly €300 to €2,500 per aid. The state may reimburse part of the cost.

How do I get state (TLK) reimbursement for hearing aids?
  1. Anyone covered by compulsory health insurance is eligible.
  2. First see an ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctor, who assesses your hearing, determines the degree of loss and prescribes the reimbursement.
  3. Then come to our centre with the referral. We have a contract with the Territorial Health Insurance Fund and will help with the paperwork.
Where can I have my hearing tested privately?

You can have your hearing tested free of charge at our centre at Laisvės pr. 60, Vilnius. You receive not only an audiogram (the test results) but also a clear explanation of the state of your hearing and the next steps.

Where do I turn for hearing aids, and how do I choose?

Contact our hearing centre, or an ENT doctor or audiologist. The specialist assesses your hearing, runs the necessary tests and makes recommendations. You can try the selected aids at our centre free of charge.

What if my hearing aid whistles or does not work properly?

Whistling is usually caused by a poor acoustic seal or a blocked device. First clean the hearing aid carefully to remove dirt and earwax. If it keeps whistling, contact us: we will run a more detailed check and put it right.

Do I need one hearing aid or two?

If hearing is reduced in both ears, two hearing aids are recommended. Sound is processed by the brain, and to build a complete picture of sound the signals must reach both hemispheres. Proper correction requires balanced input from both sides, which only two aids can provide.

How many hours a day should I wear a hearing aid?

Hearing aids are not headphones: they are not meant to be worn only when needed. In the first days, during the adjustment period, wear them for short spells of about 15 to 30 minutes and lengthen this gradually every day. Start at home and only later move on to more demanding surroundings: the garden, the park, the street.

This gentle transition lets the brain get used to the new sounds, especially the frequencies it had forgotten because of hearing loss. After the adjustment period, wear the hearing aids for at least 8 hours a day, even on days spent at home, so that the brain keeps training itself to perceive and tell apart the sounds around you.

How does hearing loss affect memory?

Hearing loss can have a serious side effect: declining memory. Age-related hearing loss combined with memory problems is often mistaken for dementia, yet research confirms a direct link between the two.

A person who hears poorly has to concentrate hard to follow what is being said. This creates cognitive overload: when the brain puts all its effort into perceiving sounds, it lacks the resources to memorise information. Even relatively mild hearing loss can cause this. To avoid it, see a hearing specialist as early as possible.
