Hearing tests

A free, thorough hearing test in Vilnius. We explain the results clearly and advise you on what to do next.

Hearing tests are procedures that establish the state of your hearing: how well you hear different sounds and speech, and whether there are any hearing problems. They matter both for prevention and for diagnosing hearing loss caused by age, illness, noise or other factors.

The hearing test at our centre is free of charge. Pure-tone audiometry takes about 20 minutes and needs no preparation. We explain the results straight away, in plain language.

When is it worth checking your hearing?

  • You often ask people to repeat what they said.
  • Speech is hard to follow in noisy places, such as shops, family gatherings or the street.
  • Family members say the TV or radio is too loud.
  • You notice ringing, buzzing or a feeling of pressure in your ears.
  • You are over 60 and have not had your hearing checked for more than a year.

Types of tests

1. Pure-tone audiometry

This test shows which pitches you can hear and how loud a sound needs to be. You wear special headphones and hear tones of different frequencies; you simply indicate when you hear a sound, which lets us measure your hearing sensitivity.

2. Speech audiometry

This test measures how well you understand speech in different conditions. Words or sentences are played through headphones and you repeat them. Speech audiometry shows how background noise affects your hearing and how accurately you understand what is said.

3. Tympanometry

This test assesses the eardrum and the middle ear. It helps detect changes in eardrum flexibility, fluid in the middle ear and other middle-ear problems. A small probe placed in the ear creates gentle changes in air pressure.

4. Video otoscopy

The specialist examines the outer ear and the eardrum with a video otoscope, an instrument with a tiny camera and a light. The image appears on a large screen and can be recorded for later review or comparison.

Who carries out the test?

Tests are carried out by experienced hearing-care specialists. Afterwards we discuss the results and, if needed, suggest the most suitable solutions, with no obligation whatsoever.
